Oh (SNAP)! Food Stamp Problems.

Don't let the Food Stamp Problems Make You Snap.

               SNAP is the new and seemingly very accurate name for the government program formally known as Food Stamps in America. SNAP is the acronym for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The name has been changed to try and change the public phobia of food stamps. The thought was that there were people who were in desperate need of government food assistance but wouldn't apply for it because food stamps had a bad name in the public eye. The name changed actually worked millions of people who never would think of signing up before flocked to sign up and received SNAP, but everything has two sides and SNAP is no exception. Of the millions of people who flocked to receive help in desperate times, many were turned away. Many of whom were left crying, feeling hopeless, and wondering why they were left to continue their suffering alone. They may not have known it then but I hope they know now that they were and are not alone and that some of them actually came out of the shadows and took to social media outlets to speak out against what happened to them. They turn to social media to try and find the answer to why, when the needed help the most they were turned away and left to starve. They ask questions like, "Who is in charge of deciding who needs help?" "Who decides who is poor?" "How do they know I don't need help" and "Who else has gotten rejected?"
       Well out of the 318.9 million people who live in America 45 million of them are said to be living within, on, or under the poverty line. For a lot of people this program can be every helpful, but for a lot of other people, this program can cause a lot of stress. Stress caused by the fact that they were denied the food stamps that they so desperately needed. Of the 45 million people living in poverty 46.2 million are part of the SNAP program. WHAT!? Yes, we all know basic math and these numbers are a little baffling because common math tells us that 46.2 million is 1.2 million more than 45 million. Where did these 1.2 million people come from and how out of a country of 318.9 million are only 45 million within the poverty line, and why are 46.2 million people on food stamps when 45 million are said to be on the poverty line. Are we to assume that all 45 million people who are on the poverty line are on food stamps and if so then why aren't the other 1.2 million extra SNAP members considered in poverty. Who are these people who get denied and why do others get help  while others are left crying because they have been denied food stamps? Is the food stamp system broken, or is there an enormous computing error that needs to be fixed, and what can you do if you are denied food stamps and have no money to buy food?
      First, let's look at the numbers. The census says that the average American income is 27,519 a year, but according to the Social Security office 40% of people are making less 20,000 a year before taxes. That is 10% away from being half of America's population. After taxes, that amount is 17,459.55 and they didn't include the deduction for health insurance or pensions in the after-tax amount. This means that 191.34 million people in America are living within the government's idea of the poverty level. With these new number, we can see that of the 191.34 million people living within the Americans poverty levels only 46.2 million are receiving SNAP, that leaves 145.14 people who need to be on SNAP without food. Now the SNAP website says that 50% of people who need to be on the SNAP program never try to receive food stamps so let's remove them from our new list of 145.14, 50% minus 145.14 equals 72.57 million. So if the government site is right that means that 72.57 million people who are below the poverty levels have applied for food stamps and we can only assume because of the 46.2 million that are receiving food stamps that these 72.57 million who applied were denied food stamps. The numbers clearly didn't add up but after seeing some clear cut numbers lets see what may have happened to the 72.57 to make them unable to receive food stamps.

       Food stamp requirements. The chart below serves two purposes it shows what the poverty levels are considered in this country and it also shows the income levels that are excepted to receive food stamps. http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/14poverty.cfm. Here we can see the different levels of income that are considered for food stamps. Since the government is going to take away 1 million food benefits from single people in 2016 I am going to assume that 1 million of the people denied food stamps are single people with no children making at least 1 dollar more than 11,670. These 1 million people sometimes have time constraints on how long they can receive food stamps for which is mostly only 3 months. Now we are at 71.57, and yes that it right I have read stories about people who have been denied food stamps for making a dollar over, 20 dollars over, and 50 dollars over the cutoff income for their household. This can also happen if the person applying for food stamps is poor and decides to live with a family member so that they don't have to be homeless on the streets. The person they are living with has to be on their food stamp application as well as their income even if they are not applying for food stamps, and their income can keep that person who needs food stamps from getting them, even if they only get paid 20 dollars a month.
          At the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, there were budget cuts to the SNAP program that lead to the denial of food stamps to 4 million people and 71.52 minus 4 is 67.52.  Let's imagine for a minute a single mother with two children who works long hours, or two or three jobs to keep a roof over her child's head, provide clean water for them to drink, and a babysitter to watch her child when she works. We all know someone like this, it's not an uncommon story. She has to make 19,790 a year to receive food stamps, but there is a problem she makes 20,190 (darn that court order 400 a month child support) because of child support she can't get food stamps. With her apartment rent (heaven help her if she has a house), electric bill, water bill, heating and air bill, child care bill, car note, car insurance, and some apartment make you get renters insurance, gas money, clothing for the children and hopefully herself, doctor bills, life insurance, health insurer, dental insurance and lets stop her because she is already doing better than most single moms now what are missing? Money for food is missing, and with all those bills even child support won't help her pay for food. If there are three people the law says you have to have at least a two bedroom apartment, and after a certain age if one of your children is a boy and the other is a girl you have to have a three bedroom apartment and those are every pricey. Let's not forget single dads who have just now started to be able to apply for food stamps without the help of women. Yes men use to not be able to sign up for food stamps, but don't worry they can sign up now (GO Single dads! Thank you guys for paving the way for other men to help better their lives and if they have them their children's lives as well)
     Another factor that can play a big role on if someone can get SNAP or not is assets. Assets seem to play a big role in who gets food stamps and who gets denied the government made new standers for how much a person or family can have in assets to receive food stamps. If someone were to have too many assets they are denied food stamps even if it was just a car they bought before they lost that really nice job they had. Assets caused 31,194 million people to be denied SNAP once again 67.52 minus 31,194 is 35,806.52 . These limits can be anywhere for 1,000 to 25,000 and higher one of the rules on the government site says the person has to have at least three months worth of living expenses in their assets to be denied for SNAP. This varies from state to state so that would explain the 1,000 to 25,000 range. I can't find number for the other reason people get denied food stamps but some of the other reason would be convicted of a violent crime, in some states drug use (but very few), if there is unclaimed unemployment, and having too much money in your bank account this falls with the 3 month living expenses rule.
       So what do you do if you are one of the 72.57 million people that have been denied or haven't signed up for SNAP? Hope is not lost, and you are not alone. Help is out there from places like Suncap to Angel Menesery sometimes help can be found in the most unexpected places, and while SNAP is a big name like Target and Walmart there are other smaller companies out there that may even be able to help you more the SNAP, because we all know how the famous saying goes "food stamps don't buy diapers."

               Have you ever wondered who the richest person in your city is, or maybe who the richest person in your country, or maybe who the richest person on the planet is? Did you know that the number of billionaires has risen by 350% and that there are 1,654 billionaires on this planet to date, and that’s only including the legal ones and the ones who are billionaires on their own and not as a family or as a team? There were only 425 billionaires on the planet at the end of 2012 the rise in numbers is truly shocking. That’s a population hike of 1,229 in only two years, but who are these people, who are the richest, and what did they do to make so much money. To answer all of these questions I have comprised a list of richest billionaires to poorest billionaires and listed them by country.

1.      America

Bill Gates is the planet's richest person on the planet his net worth stands at 81 billion and rising. He is the co-founder of Micro Soft.

2.      Mexico

 Carlos Slim Helu is the chairman of Telimex and America Movil, and he also a conglomerate in Mexico. His net worth is 76 billion, and he was the richest person on the planted.

3.      Italy

Ferrero has to be one of the richest people on the planet. He makes Ferrero Roche, Kinder, and Nutella giving him unbeatable worldwide sales and a net worth of 26.5 billion.

4.      China

Jack Ma just pushed his way all the way up to one of the richest people on the planet. He is the co-founder of Alibaba. He celebrated his new 25 billion net worth on wall-street in New York City.  

5.      Africa

Aliko Dangote is the owner of Dangote Group, he is a self-made 25 billion dollar billionaire.

6.      India

Mukesh Ambani’s net worth is no joking matter his net worth stands a 23.6 billion tall. He is the chairman of Reliance Industries Limited.

Gina Rinehart the pretty lady on the list is the chairwoman for Hancock Prospecting. Her net worth is a dazzling 20.1 billion.

Why Gas Prices Have Gone Down

"They" could tell you that oil prices have gone down because the price to ship it has lowered. "They" could tell you the drop is because the other countries are selling it cheaper. "They" could tell you a lot of things but that wouldn't change the facts. Gas prices have gone down all over the world. There recently was a series of events that accorded that has lead to the drop in oil prices. Events that haven't been hidden, but if you weren't too interested in oil it could have slipped passed you. We all know the oil business has been on ice for a long time and who is sicker of its inner workings besides the people who buy gas no one really knows, but what you might know is that America and Canada have decided to expand the Keystone Pipe Line. The Keystone Pipeline is an oil pipeline that runs from Canada to America. Here's a map of what it looks like today.

As you can see the pipeline runs from Alberta in Canada to Oklahoma and Illinois in America. The expansion of the keystone pipeline will be called Keystone XL Pipeline and there is the reason for the decrease in gas prices. The new pipeline called Keystone XL Pipeline will run the span of America here's the map that shows what it will look like.

The red dotted line shows the parts of the pipeline that will be added to the pipeline and the parts that will be expanded. Here we see that the pipeline will be added onto in Montana, South Dakota, and Nebraska. The expansion will run through Oklahoma and Texas. Which is good for American oil prices right? Maybe but there is a bigger picture here that some people seem to be missing. In 1975 America made the 1975 oil export ban which bans America for export oil to other countries, but America is trying to have that ban lifted. Why? Take a look at the photo below.

America wants to export gas to Latin America and Europe to help stop the sky-high gas prices that other countries are forced to pay around the world. So there is the answer. The gas prices have lowered because the top oil exporting countries are trying to show America that they don't need the US to export gas. Their hope was that if they lowered the prices that America would stop trying to lift the 1975 oil export ban, and would not export oil to the world. Saudi Arabia even said that a lower price may discourage expansion of the shale oil, but the US is thinking of the long-term effect, effects that would keep oil prices down throughout the whole world for a long length of time not just for two weeks or a month, at least that's what they say. The truth is that America might not have to lift the 1975 oil ban on a technicality. The technicality is that the oil being pumped through the pipeline isn't American oil at all its Canadian oil. That means that American and Canada have partnered up to help ship Canadian oil to the rest of the world. Since American didn't buy the oil they are just supplying the route the oil will take to get to other countries, this means it's not American oil. The 1975 ban only applies to US oil, so the ban doesn't really need to be lifted in order to export Canadian oil.

Often times I will find myself reading the comments after articles, post, or blogs on the internet more intently then I read the article attached. As a matter of fact, there are times I will only read half of the article or skim through it just to skip to the comments below. There have also been times when I read an article and find that they have locked out the comments so that no one can make a comment and I get so disappointed as I think to myself, "I just wasted all that time reading this article for nothing." There is something I think that draws us at times to read these comments like our lives depend on it. Sometimes we just want to know what other people think, or if anyone agrees with us. I never really leave comments but this force has drawn me in many so times and seems to have this powerful effect on most people. If you are wondering what draws us in and holds us tight between the computer coding of our favorite wed pages I think I have the answer. For me there can only be one explanation TROLLS yep that's right cyber trolls. Those wonderful masters of human manipulation, a con artist of our heart pixels, and those people we just quite frankly love to hate. They keep us up at night reading and commenting, complaining, angry, or laughing out loud. For those of you who don't know who trolls are or what trolling is here's how urban dictionary defines it

Trolling- Being a prick on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent by-stander, because it's the internet and, hey, you can.

That pretty much sums up how a troll would even define what they do on the internet. I had the great pleaser of meeting a troller in person and they said, "I love to troll the internet and make people angry about nothing." They honestly think it is funny when an innocent bystander or bystanders gets emotional about something that doesn't even make sense or is their made up a comment just to get someone going. They love to try and turn the comments around sometimes to the point of being completely off topic. We know they are out there and yet we still fall victim to them walking right into their luring jaws.

 

Troll mentality

     Trolls are not innocent according to psychologist and in numerous studies done on personalities of "normal" people and people who like to troll. Trolls might tell you they just troll for fun, but in real life, they are nice to everyone, but once again they would be lying to you and maybe even themselves. Trolls are sadist psychopathic narcissists, who go on-line to perform their Machiavellianism on the masses. So why does this lure us in, why do we care so much about what a troll thinks, when sometimes we even know they are trolling. The answer can simply be put into two words social norms.

Social Norms

Social norms are defined by Princeton.edu as - "the behaviors and cues within a society or group. This sociological term has been defined as "the rules that a group uses for appropriate and inappropriate values, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors."" This is why we feel such a draw to speak out against what we would consider their social injustices. We have our social norms, we have a way in which we like to act and a way in which we would like the people around us to act. In  other words, we want our world to be safe and comfortable, or at least we want to think that it is safe and comfortable. When a troll comes along it shatters our illusions of this world where no one can think that bad, be that bad, and act that bad. Once we realize that they can be just as awful as we fear they can be we then want to speak out against them, because we don't want them to influence anyone else to think and act the way they do. Yes, we know they might be faking it and showing off on the computer trying to make people upset, but on the off chance that they aren't faking it and on the off chance that someone will listen to them and follow in their footsteps we feel like we have to say something.  So if we call them Cyber Trolls I guess we can call the people who defend cyber society against then Cyber Heroes.

Forget this year's cars, forget next years cars, it's all about 2017's cars. Who would have thought that Toyota would make a car that brings everything we love about our smart phones, computer, and our fantasy cars altogether to make the best car on earth. No, no not even on earth more like in the galaxy or in the universe. The image you see above is of the Fun Vii 2017 by Toyota and was unmasked this year as the car of 2017. If you were ever thinking of selling your right arm, left kidney, or even soul for a car this would be the one. Sure when the car is powered down like it is in the photo your thinking well it looks like a futuristic car, arrow dynamic, and dare I say sexy "JUST LOOK AT THOSE RIMS MAN!" If the outside doesn't grip your wheels let me fill up your tank with this not just a concept car. This isn't just a futuristic looking car this is something out of star trek, something that NASA would find on mars. This is a touch screen, app-driven, holographic, social media tiger on wheels. Let me give you some images to dream about for the next two years so I can tell you more about this beast.

 "Hello baby" is what you will say when you turn this machine on in the morning, as you look at the outlined glowing reflection the car makes of you on its home screen. There are people who wish their cars could talk to them, and there are people who think their cars talk to them, but this is a whole new level of communication. Don't think for one minute that this is all Fun Vii can do.

Writing names and saying hello also leaves rooms for changing the color of the car using photos off of your phone or also from what I'm guessing is preprogrammed colors. Better yet you can use the hand drawing tablet and make your own design or write your name on the car. If that doesn't suit you, you can also place GPS on the side of the car and get updates from your friends letting you know how far away they are. Since there are already cars that can connect to your phone this isn't a hard concept but it certainly takes things to the next level.

 Safer GPS

The Fun Vii is equipped with holographic lets to start by listing the holographic in the photo above.  In the sky of the photo, you can see little holographic boxes with coffee cups and books. These boxes are letting you know what shops are nearby, for example, the coffee cup would be a coffee shop.

Auto Drive

If you look down to the right side of the photo you will see a red box surrounding another Fun Vii car. This is the car telling you and itself that there is an obstacle ahead because the car can also drive itself. If you look down on the dashboard of the car you can see holographic women, this is the auto drive pilot. You can also change the way the autopilot looks, if your not into the whole sci-fi flight attendant thing, she can look more like Leeloo from The Fifth Element.

GPS

If you look at the street you will see a line of green holographic dots. These dots lead the way to where you are going. This way you don't have to look down at the GPS to see where your going which makes driving and finding your destination safer and easier.  



  

  Touch Screen!!!

Apps, apps, apps! This is just too good to be true apps on the side of the car! Now they just turned  a car into a smartphone, a tablet , and a touch screen computer. There are cars Need to charge the car? That's right I said to charge the car, just plug it in and press the app button on the side of the car. Need to see the weather, check your calendar to see where you need to go and what time you need to be there, or want to start the music before you get in the car just tap the app.

In car school, there are three types of cars. There are cars which simply just take you where you need to go, then there are smart cars that have Bluetooth and aux cables, and then there are smarter cars. Smarter cars have everything there is to offer and then a touch more. Any car with holographic on the inside is for sure top of its class. Sick of touch screen apps if you get inside the Fun Vii you can play with the holographic apps and touch holographic computer inside.

Inside 

You can also change the view of the inside of the car by picking different colors and pattern programs. Driving this car is kind of like flying your own personal airplane. Toyota really set the bar high for car manufacturers for the next few years and maybe even decade. This car is not a concept Toyota has actually built this car and many of the features in the car are also not just concepts. If this car is allowed to be sold to the public in 2017 you have a 2-year head start to save money to buy the car. However, Toyota hasn't really given a for sure timeframe as to when this car will be on the market and car companies can not corner the market auto market. So you may have more time to save up for this car than you think. No matter what year this car is released out on the streets it is sure to be a show-stopper.

Starting off 2015 with a Bang 

What better way can you start off 2015 then by kicking Apple out of it's long staying number one spot of richest company of the world. Well that's just what Exxon Mobile did, and so far no one is complaining as gas prices are at an all time low and getting lower.  

Exxon Mobile

Exxon Mobile Crop is an American multinational oil and gas corporation that net worth just raised to a whopping 486.429 Billion. Today on Wednesday Jan 7 2015 Exxon mobile knocked Apple out of it's number one spot for top companies in the world. Who does Exxon have to thank for this CEO Rex W. Tillerson who's net worth is 40.3 million but that's sure to go up now seeing as he got a really nice raise last time the company made a major score financially. Last year Tillerson got a 15% raise after leading the company to a 44.9 billion profit last year.

Walmart

 

Walmart is an American multinational retail corporation that's net worth is 446.95 billion. It's no surprise that this companies CEO Robson Walton has a net worth of about 19.7 billion making him the 9th richest person in America.

Chevron

Chevron is yet another American company that is multinational  dealing in energy and standard oil. Chevron's net worth is 253.706. This company got started in 1879 and is active in over 180 countries. Chevron's CEO is John Watson who holds a net worth of 24.7 million. Watson was one of the top paid CEO of 2012.  

Toyota

Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese automotive manufacturing company that has family dynasty behind it. This dynasty has made a company that ranks 4th on the world's richest companies list with a net worth of 236 billion. The CEO Akio Toyoda is part of the Toyoda family that has run the company since August 28, 1937. Toyoda's net worth is unknown, which truly leaves a lot to the imagination. In 2008 Toyota ended General Motors 77-year reign and hasn't looked back since.

Apple

Apple is an American multinational corporation with a net worth of 185 billion. Apple's CEO Tim Cook's net worth is 400 million, it is said that Tim Cook's new net worth is 800 million but I couldn't find any proof of that.

It's an age old saying we have all heard it before, "you can't get by on your looks." Well, I'm here to tell you, you can. Not only can you, but the jobs get to be little ridiculous. I know what your thinking, " oh those dumb American's right? Well, America isn't the only place you can get by on your looks it turns out you can get by on your looks in India as well. When it comes to getting by on your looks alone which country takes it up that extra notch America or India?

Human Table (India) 

  Imagine being on vacation in India when someone stops you on the sidewalk and says hey your pretty.They then asked you to be a human table at a party. Lucky for us that's what happened to the girl in this photo and she blogged about it, making an interesting start to the America vs. India post series. What does a human table do you ask? Well, they just stand there looking pretty, sometimes they are able to move the table and walk around. They help serve food, drinks, take the empty containers and make conversation with party guest, and they make lots of money to do it. How much did she get paid, well she got paid 10,000 Rupees. Can you believe it 10,000 Rupees to just to stand there look pretty and pass out a drink or two?

Nightclub Promoter (America)

If you know what I club promoter doesn't worry your right but this is a different kind of club promoter. While living in California I was stopped a few times and asked to be a nightclub promoter. After finding out what California business people thought a girl club promoter was I learned to say no without asking details. So what is a female nightclub promoter? Here is the run down of some of her job descriptions. If you go to clubs you know that girls that there is this girl or group of girls that are always there, everyone knows her/them and she/they love to party. Maybe she flirted with you before but for some reason, she is hard to get (even if you get her one night, that's all you get.) Well, that girl is a nightclub promoter, her job details are to get people to come to the club and brings their friends, make the people at the club especially lonely guys, and groups of girls have a good time and feel welcome, and to never tell anyone that she is a nightclub promoter. How much does a club promoter make well it hard to say, base pay could be at maximum of 38,000 a year or higher for high-end clubs and she can work for more than one club at a time and normally she does. Not only does she get paid this much money but people are her money as well. For each person she brings to the club she gets a certain amount of money for each one. She also gets paid for how many people come back. At high-end clubs, she would get extra money if she can get rich people to start going to the club. Got drinks? She can also get pay for a number of expensive drinks she can get people to buy.

Greeter (India) 

How would feel about going to a wedding and seeing someone dressed like this greet you upon arrival? Well in India that could very well happen. I'm not sure how this got started but these women get paid if they are under contract they get 80,000 rupees a month, plus room and board. Not just any room they get their own flat, cell phone and sometimes transportation. Their job is to dress like a Dutch maid, Geisha, French maid, or well anything the host of the wedding wants and be the pretty girl who welcomes you in at the door. The girls who are contracted to do this also do other jobs that have to do with just standing there and looking pretty as well, but this paragraph is about greeters.

Stander (America)

I don't know what the name of this job is if there is even a name for it so I named it stander. This job actually has a lot of different names but the description is always the same. What does a stander do she is the girl at an event who just stands there with a smile, doing whatever she can to stand next to the person she is told to, or next to any famous person she can, and get in every photo with them, or get in as many photos at that event as possible. The pay at this job is shocking these smiling standing beauties get to pay $50,000 a year plus all travel and food cost paid, plus if they need it all college cost paid in full no matter what college they go to. Don't believe me just ask any Miss. Sprint Cup and they will confirm it for you because this is their job. They get paid to go around the country and stand in a race suit and smile.

I'm not sure if I answered the question of which country takes it up that extra notch for you, but you now know that you can, in fact, get by on your looks. Not only can you get by on your looks but you can also make a really good living at it. So if your pretty and lazy or pretty and not lazy, or pretty and need money for college, then there is some hope out there after all.

                   There is one more month left until the start of a new year. With a new year comes new resolutions, new promises, and new hope for the year/years to come. The Presidential election is one thing that grades on the minds of many Americans every year, and it's even more so grading when a president's four or eight years in office is up. January 2015 marks the last year for President Obama the 44th president of the United States to hold office. He served two full terms equaling 8 years in office,e and that means he can't run in the up and coming presidential election. So if your cop out to not watch the campaigning this year was to just vote for Obama, I'm sorry to inform you that you can not vote for Obama this year. You can, however, vote for one of the other fine candidates. I know what your thinking you could just vote for George Clooney or Hillary Clinton. Right? Well, you could if they were running but as of right now they are not running. So who is running, who are the people that we might get to vote for in the up and coming election. Well,, they will be announcing campaigns on June 1st, 2015, but lucky for us people have to sign up long before that. They do this by filing to run as a candidate with the Federal Election Commission also known as the FEC. Hillary and George haven't made their way to the FEC yet but here are the 2016 candidates who have so far.
